ROSLYN BOROUGH COUNCIL,

■ » An ordinary meeting of the Roslyn Borough Council was held last night, and attended by he Mayor (Mr A. 0. Begg), Crs Mollison, ?raser, Wilkinson, Philp, Durston, Sim, Farley, liggins, Diddell, and Ferry. COBItESPONDKNCE. The Town Clerk of Maori Hill wrote suggestng the desirability of holding a conference of inburban councils with reference to the laws ■elating to hawkers' licenses, with the object of naking one license serve for city and suburbs; ;he proceeds to be divided. He also asked if ihe oouncit was agreeable to such a proposal.— Ihe Mayor stated that the council bad already taken action en their own behalf in the matter, Mid he did not see any necessity to do anything further. —The letter was then received. Mr B. Smith, church factor, wrote stating that the_ Church Board of Property intended subdividing section 23, block IV, Kaikorai, and be forwarded plan of proposed subdivision for the approval of the council.—Referred to the Works Committee to report to next meeting. BEPOETS. The Works Committee recommended, in reply to Mr Robert Williamson's request that the owner of a vacant Bection in Ann street be compelled to fence the same, that Mr Williamson be informed that the council had no power in this particular instance to compel an owner of vaoant land to fence; that permission be given to Mr Haggitt to open the footpath in Frederick street for tlie purpose of laying down an iron pipe, and that tenders be invited for stone kerb and concrete channel to be laid down in Frederick street from the present stone kerb as far as the outlet of Mr Haggitt'a drain, and that the mayor be authorised to open tenders and accept the most suitable; that the inspector be instructed to grout the water channel on the Kaikorai road between William street and Rose street with cement; that the offer of Messrs Godby and Son to supply metal to the Anderston road cutting at 5s per yard be accepted; that the offer of Mr W. Dow to regrade Michie street and footpaths for £8 be accepted; that tenders be invited for removing, half the bank on the Bonth side of the cutting on Anderston road, for the purpose of completing the embankment opposite Mr Lloyd's property—the mayor to open and accept tenders; that three chains of plain wood kerbing be put down on the footpath on the Eaikorai road in front of Chester's township ; that the following tenders for road metal be accepted:—lsoyds on the Eaikorai road, A. Rutherford at 4? sdper yard; 100 yds on the North Taieri road, C. Godby at 4s 9d per yard; 50yds on City road, C. Godby at 5s 6d per yard. The committee reported that the inspector had been instructed to deepen the water channel on the Littlebourne road opposite Mr Park's property ; to notify owners of hedges on Church street and Broughton road to cut and remove the overgrowth of the same; and to have the water channel on High street, opposite Mr Reade's residence, cleaned out.—The report was adopted. The Finance Committee recommended that the demaads of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards be paid by monthly instalments; and that accounts amounting to £139 12s 2d be passed for payment. They reported that the bank overdraft stood at £111.—The Town Clerk stated that £63 odd waa outstanding from rates two years old, while from last year there was £215 103 lOd due for rates. Of that amount £200 could be collected. The council thus started the year practically with a balance. — The report was adopted. THE KAIKORAI STEEAM. | Mr Bain reported, stating what had been done to prevent the pollution of the Kaikorai stream since he assumed his duties as Banitary inspector. He asked the council to give him authority to prosecute persons who continued to pollute the stream.—The inspector was empowered to prosecute when necessary under the bye-laws. NOTICE OP MOTION. Cr Farley gave notice of motion for nest meeting as follows:—" That a footpath be formed on the Kaikorai road at the bridge." STECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the council was then held for the purpose of considering applications and objections to the burgess list. Neither applications nor objections were received, and the Mayor, Crs Wilkinson and Mollison were authorised to sign the list. At a special meeting subsequently held, The Matok moved—" That the resolution making bye-laws No. 19 and 20, passed at the special meeting of this council on the 17th day of April 1891, be now confirmed and be a special order of this council." Cr Wilkinson Beoonded the motion whioh was carried.
