Its life is limited by the legal and possible length of life of the foreign patent.

A barrister and aolioitor in Christchurch, who ha 3 apparently risen superior to tue traditions of the profession, advertises as follows in the Canterbury papers:—The deplorable cases which have come to light in the administration of a solicitor's estate, now in liquidation, in which the defalcations amount to many thousand pounds, have all arisen through the vicious practice which has grown up here of allowing the same solicitor to act for all parties—vendor, purchaser, lessor, lessee, mortgagor, and mortgagee (although their interests are directly opposed)—in order to save a small expense. I am prepared to act for either vendor, lessor, lessee, mortgagor, or mortgagee, will search and advise as to title, and see that all releases and deeds are duly registered, at a uniform charge of two gujueas.
