SPORTING.
TRAINING NOTES.
Yesterday morning the weather was porfeot, and the course having dried considerably most of the horses worked on the outer part of tho racing track proper. By way of variety, Poole was the first to work, his Don Ctawc and Waitangi being treated to a two-mile medium-pace gallop, in which, Waitangi shaped very well Wolverine, Dormeur, and Wayland were the next to appear. The Cup horse went twice round at a steady pace with Dormeur, and the latter dropping out, Wayland took his place, the last mentioned and Wolverine going on for a smart five-furlong spiu.J Wolverine, who, by tho bye, wore a laced bandage on his near foreleg, had only a light weight up, but his gallop was a very good one. Lady Mab went a mile at nn easy pace, end Pique (with Clifford up) covered the same distance a bit faster. Fairchild and Union Flag, who are, as might be expected, just about fit, wcro not asked to extend themselves. Union Flag, we know. Fairchild is a big colt, showing more power that quality, perhaps, but by no means a clumsy looking youngster. Loo was sent cix furlcngs at a clipping psco, and is evidently quite pink. Fiesole and Reprisal were kept to the slowest ot slow work. Crucbfield galloped twice round briskly, and seemed to rather like it. He is certainly in prime health. Garibaldi and Mon Loup merely cantered. Mariner and Tempest did slow wors, winding up with a fourfurlong spin at nearly top speed. Tempest being boms first by a length. Cissy and Hilda were associated in a pretty fast six furlong gallop, both going well, and they then oantered. Forest King went round twice at & steady rate. Lady Bell and Blizzard did a top speed spin over the six furlong course, the filly of Course finishing in front, she being ready for racing, while tho chestnut gelding is not 30. Le Roi did two miles at his best pace. Leinster was set only a light task; aud the work served ont to Warlock and Dispute was useful rather than risky. Occident and Trimolite did a good two-mile gallop, with Dunrobio as a chum in the second half of tho journey. Tho pace was just fast enough to bring the Cap horse home in front of Trimolite, the latter, however, doing very well. Occident was still bandaged, but I conld not see anything 'wrong with him. Mr O'Brien's Tassy, Florrie, Little Arthur, Freedom, and John Field wcro on tho ground, but did not work, having arrived only the previous evening. Qjadrant came down by steamer during the day. The following horseß arrived by last night's express from the north: —Palliser, Carronade, Clanrannld, Ranee Nuna, Prime Warden, and Quibble, Mazeppa. EGMONT RACES, Haweba, February 18.
