The Government of Victoria haa for many years bestowed much attention upon the possibility of establishing industries suitable to the soil and climate, and has gone to considerable trouble and expense in placing beforo the public particulars of such as have been considered worthy of introduction. A Royal Commission was appointed to report on vegetable products, and ifc has taken a mass of evidecce on the subject. We have now before us progress report No, 2, which relates to perfume plants and their cultivation, and tho extraction nf essential oils and perfume!l. It will probably surprise many to learn thafc the extraction of perfume or essential oil from flowers is a process as simple as making butter, and that consequently it can be carried on by the members of a family unassisted by outside labour, and with bufc trifling preliminary expense, Speaking of the experimental perfume farm which has been established, the well-known writer " Telemacbus"says:—"Tho wheat grower with 320 acres will bo in debt to tho miller and storekeeper his whole life long ; while the clever man with 10 acres of pinsies, camellia?, and rcses will live a good and easy life, and in 10 years 1 secure independence." Tho industry is worthy of attention here where flowers grow in profusion.
