PINAFORE OPERA OOMPANY.

Tho above company are again in the field with opera, opening in the City Hall on Monday, February 23rd, and playiog 'during our racing carnival, The operas chosen for performance nre "Widowsßewitched,"and "The Queen of Leon." The former is written by Hamilton A'i'-i, and composed by Virginia Gabriel, and is written in that composer's happiest style, the music being of a bright and sparkling character, and full of tuneful melodies from the first bar of the overture to the finale. One of the features of the opsra is a lovely minuet which will be danced by tho principal performers. The libretto is of that polished and courtly description met with in the "School for Scandal." " Tho Queen of Leon," which they so successfully performed during their late season in Dunedin, is to be reproduced, and tho opinion we then expressed of ifc has beeu confirmed by our contemporaries in Invercargill, Oamaru, and Timaru, whither the company havo journeyed and given' most successful performances to crowded houses. The net proceeds of tho first night are to be banded over to tho Kakanui Relief Fund. This generous act of the management should meet with a hearty response) from tho public throughout the whole of the season. _^_^__^_^___
