THE DIRECT STEAMERS.

Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. have received Intimation that the Arawa, from Plymouth (August 9), left Cape Town on Sunday morning, 31st ultimo, for New Zealand, vii Hobart.

The Union Steam Ship Company's Btenmer Manapouri, Captain Logan, from Melbourne, via the Bluff, arrived at the Tougue wharf at 7.30 a.m. yesterday. We are indebted to her obliging purser (ilr B. W. M'Lennan) for the report of her pamßge aorosB: — She left the wharf at Melbourne at 2.15 p.m. on the 27th ult., and cleared Port Philip Heads at 6 20 p.m. same day, passed Swan Island at noon next day, had light variable winds with fine weather and calm seas throughout the passage across; breasted the Solanders at Ipm. of the 31st ult., reaohed the Bluff Harbour at 6.25 p.m. of that day, and anchored for tho night; weighed at daylight on the lstlnst., and made fast at the wharf at 7 a.m. Owing to labour troubles, she did not get away from the Bluff on Monday (her usual day;, but after working all oargo out, she left at 3 p.m. on the 2nd inst.; had Sne weather along the coaßt, and entered Otago Harbour at daylight yesterday, passed Port Chalmers at 6.40. a.m., and made fast at the wharf as above.

The schooner Lizzie Ellen commenced taking In cargo f'.r Fortrose yesterday morning. Thebarque Lebu Is taking In ballast at the Rattray street wharf. Her destination from here is Picton.

The barque Kenmore, from Liverpool for Wellington and Dunedln, waß spoken on June 26 in lat. 36 N., long. 25 W. The barque Biuasels. Captain Alston, was An. leave Liverpool for Wellington and Dunedin on July 22. Owing to the state of the weather yesterday, very little work was done among the shipping. A coal hulk was towed up from Port Chalmers yesterday morning, and berthed at the tongue wharf, to supply the b.b. Manapouri with fuel for her outward trip. The New Zealand Shipping Company's ship Hurunui, Captain Sinclair, was spoken on July 6 in lat. 49 N., long. 5 W. The completion is reported of the largest Russian ship, which is to be belong to the so-oalled " Patriotic fleet," in the Black Sea. It has been built at the Behlcon docks, in Elblng, and is a despatch boat, 140 ft long, by 15ft broad. At the first trial of its speed it ran 23 knots an hour. The vesiel !b to be called the Adler, and at the same docks .three gunboats are building for Russia.
