BATIALION. I'AEADE. The rifle battalion paraded laßt night, the following being tho parade state :— Staff. — Colonel Wales, Major Gordon, Major Cullan, Captain Smith, Lieutenant Johnstou, Ser-geant-major Slowloy. Highland Bifles. — 1 captain, 2 lieutenants, 1 colour-sergeant, 2 sergeants, X corporal, 2 buglers, 20 rank and file ; total, 29. Irish Bifles.—l lieutenant, 1 colour-sergeant, 2 sergeants, 2 buglers, 19 rank and file ; total, 25. South District Itifles.—2 lieutenant;, 1 colouraergeant, 2 [sergeants, 2 buglers. 14 rank and file; total, 21. Wakari Eifles.—l captain, 2 lieutenants, 1 colourEergeant, 1 Bergeant, 2 corporals, 1 bugler, 22 rank and fila; total, 30. Pipe Band.—s. Grand total, 217. After parade tho corps were marchel to the Garrison Hall, where they wera drawn up in column and inspected by Colonel Wales. At the conclusion of the inspection Private M'Carthy, of the City Guards, was called to the front, and was presented by Colonel Wales with a silver medal, he having proved himself to be the premier shot In the Duuedin district for the year 1889. The Dunedin Naval Artillery, second class, fired the last of a series of handicap matches for prizes presented by P.O. Woollett. Gunner J. Predric, and the corps, on Saturday. Conditions: The first five in each match to count 5, 4, S, 2, and 1, points respectively, and the first to obtain 18 points to become the winner of the first prize. She following are the prize-winners in order: —Gunner F. Biggs (21 points), silver medal; Gunner ¥. Cannon (16 points), inkstand; Gunner W. Jay (15 points), trophy. The* Engineers mustered at the Garrison Hall on Wednesday. Lieutenant May delivered an interesting and instructive lecture on " Shelter, French Exercise." Several new members were elected.
