RAILWAY EMPLOYES' UNION.

A general meeting of members of the Amiilgamated Society of Hailway Servants of New Zealand waa held in tho Oddfellows1 Hall, Hattray street, last night. There were about 150 members present, and the president (Mr Hewton) occupied the chair. The bmineßS of the meeting waa to receive the report of the delegate (MrL. Harriß), who attended the meting of representatives from the various railway societies in tho colony recently held at Chrietctiurch. Mr Harris commenced an address of over an hour'o duration by referring to the grievances of railway employes that had been brought before the Sweating Comrhisoioh in Qbrlßtchurch, and tnid he believed a special coirimlssion.would be appointed by the Government it} collect evidence throughout the colony respecting the grievances of the railway servants. He afterwards spoke of the business done at tha meeting of delegates, whose chief duties were in connection with the drawing up of rules for the society. There rules were drafted on the lines of thote of the Auckland Uniou, but that body having a benefit 6ooicty connected with it the delegates had to alter them to a certain extent on that account, and t aeh delegalo he must Bay, worked faithfully to prepare rules that would meet with the approbation of all the societies iv tho colony. He next referred to the discussion that had taken place with reference to amal iptnntion with other bodies, but on which nothior definite was settled. Other matters conoidertd at' the conference wero nko dealt with by Mr Harris, after which the report was received, and a vote of thanks waa accorded Mr Harris for the able manner in which ho had attended to theuuslncsß in Christchurch, ami for the lucid report he had made that night. Before tho meeting concluded Mr J. K. Anderson, who baa been for many yearß employed in the Hillside workshops, addressed the meeting, explaining that on account of the piece work system, introduced recently, he' had been compelled to leave, -md waa now going to New South Wales. Mr Uobson, delegate from Auckland, occupied a seat on the platform towards tbe clote of the meeting.
