f Invercahgill, February 20. At a meeting of the creditors of A. H. Aitktn, of Riversdale, to-day, thy debtor's statement showed a surplus of £215. The deputy-assignee said that this was uot likely to be realised, tho stock-in-trade valued by debtor at £424 being worth only £267. The debtor was questioned as to the payment out of his funds of £40 legal expenses incurred defending successfully an action agninst his wife, aud he explained that she had no funds to meet the costs. Mr D. L. Matheson was appointed supervisor, and he aud the deputy-assignee were authorised to pell the assets.

A. five-roomed house neai Clifton, owned by James Phillipson, was destroyed by firu at 3 o'clock this morning. The inmates, numbering seven, just escaped in their night clothes. The furniture was uninsured. The house was insured for £150.
