THE WAKATIPU DREDGIHG OOMPANY (LIMITED).
TO THE EDITOR.
g iß) __ET r cbiptnan h letter with reference to tho report of the above company's meeting, which Appeared in yoar jsfiue of the 13;h itifct,, is, I regret to s&y, as disingenuous as ifc is equivocal and misleading. It is not an honest, straightforward denial of the accuracy of the report in question, but seeks, for some reason or auother not apparent, to raise a doubt as to the statements made therein. So far as relates to what the chairman said, Mr Chapman states the truth, but not the whole truth. When moving the adoption of the report the chairman read a statement from Mr Outten ss to the boring, and made the remarks thereoD quoted by Mr Chapman. When he had raoved the adoption of the report, and before it was seconded, I assed the chairman whether the directors considered the iniorsuation supplied by Mr Cutten proved the existencs of the washdirt over the whole of the company's claim, and confirmed Mr Baal's original report. His reply was that it did in that respect, but that the boring was, of course, not a test as to the value of the >vashdirt. The chairman also said that the boring? proved that the company had a very valuable eiaim, und the favourable resnlta of the boring were commented on in a congratulatory manner by mauy of Ihe shareholders present. What difference is sought to be made out by Mr Chapman beiWKMi the published report and what took place J do not quite understand, but the {acts are as I have stated. The portion of Mr Oi>»pmati's letter stating th<-. report of the meeting was unauthorised and published without the knowledge of the directors or ifdoprs of the company is ridiculoua and ijntruu—riilicnlous because W.- Chapman has had toe mueii t-xptricr.ee v!
