THE LOWER HARBOUR. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —The thanks of everyone in this provincial district are due the Harbour Board and its officials for careful soundings taken in the Victoria channel. Bj a wise resolution of the board this was brought ahout, and evidently intended to embrace all navigable waters inside the heads. This being so, a running survey with careful soundings will, of course, follow for the lower harbour. If we are not greatly mistaken it will there be found—for Nature h?s laid her curse upon rest—banks are increasing and water shoaling; through, of course, no fault of the board's, but in accordance with Nature's liwb aforesaid. In asking, Sir, attention to this Ido so respectfully, and with the cole object of making one of the bs-it harbours in New Zealand, as it should be, the final port of departure for the ever increasing size of cur growing ocean st3amers.—l am, &c, November 2.
