Wednesday. Octobeb 16. Timaru—Ohnu arrived early from Oamaru; calls 5.30 for Napier. Tekapo arrived early from Oamaru; sails to-night for Lyttelton. Lyttelton—Eotorua arrived 9 a.m. from Dunedin ; eails 10 p.m. for Wellington.

Wellington—Peoguin arrived 1 a.m. from Nelson; sailed 3 p in. for Lyttelton. Mahinapua sailed 6 p.m. for Lyttelton. New Plymouth—Takapuna arrived early from Manukau; sailedßam. (or Wellington. Greymouth—Herald arrived 10 a.m. from Welling, ton.

Napier—Southern Cross arrived 5 p.m. from Wellington. ■ ■" 'Kuaoell—Maravoa arrived 6 a>m, from Auckland j sailed a p.m. for Sjdu»y.

The s.s. Brunner, Captain Bwan, from Westport, via Timaru and intermediate ports, arrived at 8.15 a.m. yesterday and steamed alongside the hulks at the Boweu pier to discharge part cargo of coal. Mr F. Brodrick (her purser) reports leaving Wes'.portat 0.30 p.m. on the 12th inst.; artlved at Neleon at 9.20 a.m. on 13th; left again at 10 a.m., entered the French Pass at 2 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at 10.10 p.m.; took on board Southern mails ex Buapehu, and left again at 11.30 p.m. same day; breasted the Kaikouraa at 9.15 a.m. on the 14th, reaching Lyttelton at 7 p.m.; Bailed again at 10.40 p m. same day, called at Timaru, and alter taking on board quantity cargo left again for headquarters at 10.30 p.m. on the 15th, arriving as above. From Westport to Wellington she had strong head winds with heavy seas, and from that port light S.W. winds with fine weather to arrival. .

The s.s. Hotomahana, Captain Caiey, steamed down to Port Chalmer* yesterday morning. After embarking passengers and mails, she left in the afternoon for Auckland, via East Coast port!).

The brigintine Sybil was towed to sea yesterday afternoon, and sailed with a cargo of grain for Adelaide.

The ship Auckland has put out 300 tons of salt at tho cross wharf.

The s.s. Omapere left the Kattray street wharf yesterday evening for Westport. The b.s. Bruuner steamed up from Fort Chalmers yesterday afternoon, and loaded cargo at the Battray street wharf.

Captain Noyes, of the American barque Coloma, whlcti recently arrrived at Portland, Oregon, reports that when 20 days out from Hongkong oa his return trip, he discovered three locky islands 40ft in height. Heither of the Islands baa ever been put on the chart. Many years ago a captain from San Francisco said that he had passed an island not down on his chart, and it was found that he had navigated across to Hongkong on a map of the world oa Mereator's projection. The b.i. Manapouri steamed up from the lower harbour yesterday forenoon, and landed cargo at the Victoria wharf. She left Auckland at 0.40 p.m. of the 10th inst., and reached Gieborne at noon next day; left again at 6 p.m., and anchored in Napier roadstead at 1.30 a.m. of the 12th met.; pushed on again at 3 p.m. same day, and reached Wellington at 9.15 a.m. of the 13th inst., having encountered fresh bead winds with overeiat weather throughout the passage; left Wellington at 6 p.m. of the 14th inst., bad light variable winds and flue weather until entering Godley Heads, and thence had a thick fog to arrival at Lyttelton at 9.15 a.m. of tbe 15th; left again at 6.40 p.m., had light winds with fine weather down the coast, and reached headquarters as above. We are indebted to Mr M'Leauan (the purser) for report and files. We understand that Captain M. Carey, of the Union Company's s.s. Eotomahana, is to command the company's new Bteamer M«nowai on her arrival In the colony. We congratulate our genial friend on his preferment. The present trip of the s.s. Manapouri from LytteltcJi is one of the best on record. Her time from Lyttelton was 14 hours aud 30 minutes, aud from Lyttelton to the Victoria wharf 15 hours aud 40 minutes; remarkably good steaming.
