OTAGO SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
The monthly meeting of the Otago School Commlisioners wrb hejd yesterday, and attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chairman). J. W. Bain, J. Green, T. Dennlston, and the Hon. W. H. Keynolds. A report was rcoeived from Mr Bain aud the seoretary ou Mr J. Hlcky'n security, whim it was decided to have the proporty offered for sale by the registrar of the Supreme Court. Mr Wain interviewed the commissioners in respeot to the bale of the Glenledl estate, and certain proposals were agreed to be submitted for Mr Wain » consideration and approval. A. report was received from Messrs Bain and Denntston with regard to making arrangements for the erection of a hotel for the accommodation of tourists at To Anau.—Mr Mondy haviug been consulted, it was found that certain legal difficulties were in the way of any arrangements being made at present. A memo, was received from the Southland County Council declining to grant a deviation of road ou tectiou 35, Oreti. A letter was received from Mr N. Turnbull, on behalf ot Mr W. 0. Turubull, Waikaia, offerrog 6d per aero per annum'for tb3 lease of the gravel reserve opposite eeoti v 3. block X, Waikala.-The matter of dealing with the section was deferred until the commissioners visited the district. Mr Jamas Muir, Mokorefca, wrote forwarding a memorial from deferred payment purchasers in that district asking to be placed on the came footing as other Crown tenants, in order to get a revaluation of their holdings.—lt was decided to inform the petitioners that tbe Selectors Revaluation Act applied to their cases, aud that they mußt therefore make application to the Southland Land Board to have their Mr W. Tuffery, lessee of section 43, block 111, New Biver Hundred, wrote asking the commissioners, in the event of their not seeing their way to reduce his rent, to allow him to pay half of the smount for next year.—The commissioners could not see their way to accede to the request. A petition wes receive! from settlers In the Wendon and Wendouside district asking that the bush on run 193*. known as the Devil's Bush, might be set apart eb a bush reserve,—Beferred to Mr J. L. M'Donald to report. ' Mr Jomes White wrote, forwarding a resolution passed at a meeiing of settlers at Hlversdale on tlia 28tU ult., asking the commissioners to Inspect ths caßli sections when they were in the district.- Consideration of the matter was held over for a mouth; Mr M'Ponald to report with regard to it in the It was decided to hold over the matter of arraugoing for the Burvey of run 133 a, Wendon, until afttr the visit of the School Commissioners to the district. The usual monthly report was received from MrJ. L. M'Donald. He forwarded a letter from Mr W. 0. Gallaway to the effect that the latter could not lease section 32, block IX, Waikaia, unless for a term of yearn. He recommended that the section be offered for leaeo at tlje first sale for a term of years at an upset of Is Gd per asre.--Approved. He forwarded an application from Mr M. Newsome lessee of section 15, block 111, Otautau, fora reduction of rent from 20s to 10s per acre.—The application wbb declined. On his recommendation it waa decided to reduce the rent of seotion 39. block 11, Otautau, held by Mr D. Clarke, from S3 to £1 pot annum, provided the arrears of rent were paid. ' • —He recommended that upon the payment of arrears of rent on Bectiou 24, block 11, Otautau, the lessee, Mr Wohlmau, be allowed to transfer tha lease of the section to the Southland Building Society and Bank of Depoßlt.-Agreed to. On his recommendation it was decided to agree to the issue of the lease ot section 1 of 246, Hokonui. to Mrs Elizabeth M'Donald, on the payment of arrears of rent. He forwarded an application from Mr Hobert Kerr, leiOfia, 6eotiens 1 and 2, block XVII, 1 and 2 blook XVIII, and 1, block XI, Dipton, asking to be allowed to iranßfarhjs feterest in the lease to Charles WillfamsoD.—The transfer was approved of subject to the payment of costs. ... He forwarded a letter from Mr D. Gillanders, lessee of run 326, Waikaia, asking the commissioners to lodge an objection to the water race which Messrs J. JJraithwaite aud party wished to cut through the run. He recommended that the matter ba referred to the commissioners when they visited the district.—The recommendation wa? adopted. He stated that Mr J. Jamison, lessee of qection 3, block I, luvercargill Hundred, wished to know hoiy the commissioners intended to deal with the reserved part of his lease in April next, and recommended that it be cut up into suburban seotions,— It was decided to inform Mr Jamison that the commissioners at the expiry of his lease would probably cut up the land into suburban sections, with the View of offering them for lease for a term of years. Accounts amounting to £iS 8s 2d wero passed for payment. The commissioners then adjourned until November 29.'
