THE FOOTBALL DINNER. TO THE EDITOR.

Sib,—Kindly permit me to correct a wrong impression which your condensed report of my speech in proposing the health of the Auckland teßm might convey to thoso who are not acquainted with tho principle that has always been adopted by the Otago Rugby Union when sending teams to play other provinces. It is the prido and boast of our union that we have never taken gate money from others, and have never even solicited it. Tho Otago Rugby Union guards zealously the amateur barrier, and in the best interests of the game I hope it will ever be so.—l am, &c. MILLEN ConGHTBEY. President Otago Rugby Union. September 11.
