GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.
Messrs Samoel Orr and Co., Stafford street, report for the week ending September 11, v follows 1— Since last reporting we have had some beautiful showers, which were very acceptable, as they have brought away the grass in a wonderful manner, while they have enabled farmers to go on sowing their grass seed. Wheat.—Our market is in the same position as it has been for the pa«t few weeka—a vecy limited demand, with no improvement in prices nnd but little prospect of any change, as the markets at Home and elsewhere are as sluggish as they have ever been. We quote, nominally, prime milling at 3s 6d to 3b 8(1; matiium, 3s 2d to 3b 4d; fowl feed, 2s 6d to 3s Id. Oats.—A duller week in the demand for these we never experienced, as with the markets on the other side being flat and the uncertaintyof when the extra duty is going to be levied, has made speculators chary of touching any unless they can get them shipped right away, which just now ia a difficulty, space in the steamers being scarce, A rather lengthy analyßi6 of thia product was given in the Times the other day by Mr Jenkins, and at which farmcra might glance. We quete prime milling, 2s 7d to 2s Sd; heavy bright feed, 2s Sd; ordinary, 2s 5d to 2s 6Jd. Barley.—There being no sales taking place, we refrain from giving quotations, which might only mislead. Chaff.—There is a fair quantity coming forward, and prices are being maintained in consequence. Good, clear, well-cut from oaten sheaf is worth £3 15s to £3 17s 6d; ordinary, £3 to £3 10s. Potatoes —The unsteadiness of the markets on th« other side have damped prices here a bit, and for Northern £415s ia obtainable, and Southern, £4 10s. Grass Seed.—Ryegrasa: The Beason ia now in full swing, aud during the week we sold some large parcels, prices ranging from 2s 9d to 6b, the latter for Poverty Bay. Cocksfoot is also in good demand, as well aB timothy, the former selling at from 2jd to 4jd and the latter up to 6d, according to quality, Clovers : Our market is not over-supplied, and prices have hardened. • __
