SABBATH DESECRATION. TO THE EDITOR.
Sib,-Would you kindly inform me whether the young men of Dunedin are at liberty to hire tIiFSTi IT. 1? m"eS out of Du "e°m to Waiteti, and while there play football both on the main road and m a private paddock belonging to the publican, adjoining the road, while re? spectable residents of the village are going to and from church ? Also, if the J.P's resident n the place are justified in quietly looking oh and taking no action to prevent such disgraceful conduct? Of course it. w not expected that the local policeman will take any action to put a stop to such scenes. The publican seems to have a vested interest in all policemen stationed in this place; but we certainly expect some- . thing more from those gentlemen who have the honour of sitting upon the bench. The residents, or rather -Eome few residents, of this place would feel grateful if you could suggest any course that would prevent a recurrence of such scenes as we have eeen during the last two Sundays.—l am, &c., _, A Loveb or the Sabbath. Blueskin, SRptember 9.
