Bluff—Te Anau arrived early from Dunedln; sailing 4 p.m. for Melbourne, Lyttelton—Elngarooma arrived 8 ajn. from Wellington ; tailing 3 p.m. for Dunedln. Herald sailing 1 p.m. for Dunedln. Bothwell Castle sailing 3 p.m. for Wellington.' Wellington — Botomahana arrived noon from Lyttelton j Bailing 7 p.m. for Kapier. Koranui arrived 10 a.m. from Nelson.
Nelson-Botorua arrived 10 a.m. from Picton; Bailing 11 a.m. for New Plymouth, Gisborne—Auitralia arrived i a.m. from Napier j tailed 8 a.m. for Auckland.
Napier—Southern Cross arrived 7 a.m. torn Gisborne; sailed 10 a.m. for Wellington. Manukau—Wauaka sailed 1.15 p.m. for New Plymouth.
Sydney—Lludus sailed 8 p.m; Wednesday. Tekapo arrived Thursday morning.
The s.s. Takarfuna, Captain Grant, from Nelson, via Akaroa and Intermediate ports, arrived at Fort Chalmers at 9 a.m. yesterday, and steamed direct to Dunedin. She leit Kelson at 10 a.m. on the 24th Inst; called at Plcton, Wellington, Lytttlton, and Akaroa, leaving the latter port at 6 p.m. on the 29th, arriving as above. From Nelson to Wellington she experienced fine weather, and from that port to Lyttelton strong southerly winds with heavy sea, followed by fine weather to arrival. The s.s. Wareatea, coal laden, from Greymoiith, arrived at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, and steamed alongside the hulks at the Bowen piar to discharge. She left greymouth at 10.IS a.m. on the 37th Init., eiperienced strong southerly winds until clearing Cook Straits, paned Cape Campbell at 9 p.m. on the 28th, and Banks Peninsula at 4 p.m. on the 29th, thence had light southerly w!ndi with fine weather.
The R.M.B. Coptic has put out about 1200 tons of cargo, and commenced to take in her frozen mutton yesterday morning. The s.s. Takapuna was haulei into the graving dock yesterday afternoon for cleaning and repainting. The Union s.s. Company's steamer Brunncr, Captain Ewan, with a cargo of coal and coke, from street wharf at 6 a.m. yesterday. She left Greymout at 0.30 p.m. of August 27, and breasted Cascade Point at 8 a.m. ol the 28th, pasted Puysegur Point light at 5.30 a.m. of the aflth, and reached headquarters as above. She had fine weather during the run from Qreymouth to Martin'B Bay, thence the had strong S W. winds and heavy seas tillpatsing Puysegur Point, followed by fine weather to arrival. We thank Mr Dale (her purser) for report, Ac. The Harbour Board's dredge No. 222 was sighted about 13 miles to the eastward of the Eolanders at 10.30 a.m. of Thursday by the s.s. Brunner. The weather wsu fine, and there was very little sea on at the time.
The s.s. Mahinnpna left the Battray street wharf at 6 p.m. yesterday with cargo and paisengers for the West Coast, via Timaru.
The s.s. Beautiful Star, Captain Brewer, left the Battray street wharf at 10 p.m. yesterday with passengers and cargo for Oamaru.
The s.s. Takapuna steamed up from Port Cbalmen yesterday forenoon, and Unded cargo at the Kattray street pier.
A lighthouse li to be erected on Booby Island, Torres Straits, on the highest part of the Inland, about 85ft above sea level. The frame will be of timber sheltered with galvanised iron plttes. The height of the light room floor will be 35ft, the lantern and light room having altogether an additional height of 23ft. The apparatus is to be a second order revolving light, which fUsbes at intervals of half a minute. The light will bs visible from a distance of about 18i miles. Three lighthouse keepers are to be stationed on the Island. This light will be of 'great assistance to the vessels entering Torres Straits from the westward, ana especially to vesiels bound to and from the Gulf, as it will enable them to clear the banks at the western end of Endeavour Straits without danger. The ship Lucknow, of London, 1440 tons, which ' left Newcastle, New South Wales, on February 22 for San Francisco, and has not since been heard of, has been posted as " missing " by the Committee of Lloyd's. The new commander-in chief of the Australian station is Lord Charles Soott, C.B. He is brother to the Duke of Buccleuch, and was captain of H.M.S. Bacchante when the visited Australia in 1881 with the sons of the Prince of Wales. He received the decoration of the Bath on August 7,1882, and was appointed as rear-admiral in 1868. Admiral Fairfax, the present commander-in-chief, leaves Sydney for England in a few weaks.
Our shipping reporter received a telegram yesterday from Captain J. Veal, the coasting pilot of the ship Ralston, informing him that she arrived at Wellington yesterday morning, after a smart pasiage of 50 hours from Dunedin.
