LAND BOARD.

Tlie weekly meeting of the above, held on Wed. nesday, was attended by tho Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maltland), J. Duuean, W. Dallas, J. W. Thomson, and J. Clark. NoiiTH Harbouk add Blueskin.—Mr P. W. Mouat, on behalf of Mrs Mount, applied for permission to purchase a small piece of land numbered 74, block V, North Harbour and Blueskln district. An application was also made by John Driver to lease the same section.—lt was decided to allow the section to be purchased. Stuath-Taikki.—Consideration was resumed of

the statement of amounts due by Thomai Pugh, perpetual lessee of High School Board endowment lands - namely, on sections 17, 20, 23, 24, block V, Strath-Taieri, amounting to £77 9i Cd.-The licenses were cancelled for nou-payment of rents; rauger to make valuations.

Tho High School Board wrote stating that they had agreed to a reduction of rents of land at StrathTaieri occupied by Audrew Harvic aud J. Harrison. He the case of J. Nolan, they wished the matter held over for some time, when the land may be offered at present price, or that the section be offered for sale. The recommendation of the High School Board was held in abeyance pending further developments. Tuapuka Wkst.—Mr John Thompson, on behalf of Martin Franklin, applied fora lease of portion of the railway reserve In block VI, Tuapeka West, for grazing purposes.—Deollned; application for occupation license to be made to the warden.

Koxbuhgu.—The salesman submitted for decision applications from the following to complete purchases of lands in Roxburgh township:—Jabez Burton, section 22(2r7p); Michael M'Mullen. Bection 21 (2r 35p) ; James Miller, oection 24 (Ir lOp) ; J. H. Waugh, section 20 (2r lip); and Thomas Andrew, section 23 (2r 15p)-all situate in block Vll.—Consideration deferred.

Blackstonk.—Mr J. B. Hlckton, on behalf of A. S. Lorris, asked that section 77, blook I, Blaakstone, be reduced Irom 20s to 15s per acre.—Declined. Coal Leases.—A letter was received from Mr W. N. Calrne, in reply to a communication from the Woard to pay the rent due on coal areas, in which he stated that he had to take advantage of the clemency of the Bankruptcy Act some time ago, and hoped the board would grant him a new lease for the Whnrekuri coal mine. Mr W. Smith appeared on bihalf of the applicant.—Nhe board decided to cancei previous lease of same, mine issued to Adam Geddes for non-payment of rent; ranger to take possession, and report upon mine with a view to It being offered

by auction. District Surveyor Barron, in reporting upon an application by w. M'Arthur for a coal lease on rum 226 A and 22ti11. recommended a grant of a lease of 10 or 50 acres of the laud applied for, provided they be limited to 30 chains along the line of coal. Messrs Hoss and Olendlning wrote objecting to the same being granted.—The application for coal lease was declined. Waipoki.—The Warden, Lawrence, forwarded a petition received from miners and others which stated that the lands recently applied for by I. Cotton-viz., sections 3, 18. and 23, blook IV, Walporl district, are more or less auriferous, and requested that the lands be not dealt with so as to hamper the mining Industry. The Wniporl Miners' Association also wrote objecting to tho application being granted—The board consented to allow Mr Cotton to occupy the land during its pleasnre; no claim to be made for Improvements. Mr H. Cotton, on behalf of the Walporl Miners' Association, naked that section 6, block VII, section! 1 and 3, block VIH, and section 20, block V, Wai-

pori, be withdrawn from sale, as the same Is auriferous.—The board deolded not to accept any applications for purchase nntil a report was received from the warden.
