THE OAMARU CYCLING CLUB SPORTS.

TO THE EDITOR,

Sir,—lv the last issue of the Otago Witness " Cyclist" makes a severe onslaught on the Oamaru Cycling Club, and I would like to say a word in their defence.

The clause in our programme, " Events Nos. 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 10, are open to members of the club only," should have read," Open to members of cycling clubs only." This awkward mistake was not detected until too late, and we would like it understood that we have no wish to exclude riders from Dunedin, Christchurch, and Timaru; in fact we will only be too pleased to see them at our sports.

As regards our track, it is our misfortune, not our fault, that it is not so good as " Cyclist" would like it; but perhaps by next season we will improve it so that " Cyclist," who no doubt is a " flyer," will have a chance to come up and " scoop the pool." Perhaps our being such " poor riders " in his estimation, will be a further inducement to come. By inserting the above in your vain able paper, you will confer a great favour on the Oauiaru Cycling Club.—l am, &c., W. Lawsox, Hon. Sec, O.C.C. Oamaru, February 15.
