Bavin, Wesleyau minister, iv charge of the Graf ton road circuit, has been appointed to William strti-.t circuit, Wooloomooloo. Owing to the fact that certain concessions could not be, obtained from shipping companies and the Railway department, and to other adverse circumstances, the projected Bee-keepers' Association convention has been indefinitely postponed.

The nomination of candidates for the Licensing Committee took place to-day, when the old committee were re-elected unopposed. Wellisgton, February 15. The police in the districts through which Tb Kooti will pass on his way to Poverty Bay have been instructed to arrest any person, whether European or Natives, who may bo guilty of conduct likely to lead to a breach of the peace. Serious complaints are being made at the state o{ the city water supply. As the water is drawn from taps a strong smell is delected. The cause is Attributed to the Polhill Gully supply, which is turned on while a burst in the pipe of the Waiuui-o-mata, the main supply, is being repaired. Further inquiries show that in the will of the Native who died on Friday night no bequests | were made to either Carrol! or Gage. ; It has been decided to continue operations for | launching the barque Weathersfiold from the | Otaki bsuch. ! A man named Matthew Edward Pickering was j to-day sentenced to six months' hard labour for ; disregarding a maintenance order of the court. The Licensing Committee have appointed Mr J. li. Blair chairman.

A citizen of Christchurch was this week greatly pleased and surprised at receiving a cheque for £52 10s under the followiug circumstances : —Some years ago a mortgagee advanced him money on some property at 10 per cent., which was at that time no extravagaut rate of interest. However, the mortgagee, whose security has been released, now writes to the effect that he considers so high a rate to be prejudicial to the prosperity of the country, and accordingly returns the amount named above.
The secretary of the Lyttelton Harbour Board telegraphed to Admiral Fairfax offering the use of the dock free of cost for any of the ships under the v.drairal's command. The admiral's secretary has replied thanking the board, but stating that at present there is no intention to dock tho Rapid.

The Gas Company has declared a dividend of 5 per cent, for the half-year, making 11^ for the year. There is a falling off iv the profits, due to the increased price of coal, and concessions iv prices. Sis hundred and ninety tons of coal were used, yielding six and a-half million feet ot gas.
