CRIMINAL STATISTICS.
During the yenr ending December 31 last, the number of persons taken into custody, summoned, or apprehended at Dunedin was .1375 males and 366 females, of wlreh number 1000 males and 300 females were summarily convicted. The fees mid fines amounted to £-167 12s, us against £402 10s for 1887. During the past year tho arrest;! for drunkenness were : Males, 376 ; females, 137. In 18S7 the arrests for drunkenness were not quite so numerous, the respective totals being 318 and 103. The following tablo shows how the principal offenders were disposed of :—
The returns for the December quarter were:— Total cases, 305 males and 75 females ; convicted, 251! males and 57 females ; few and lines, £11-! 4s (id.
