TfpHE BUCKEYE ON THE TAIERI. _5_ GOOD \VOItK. A large number of farmers and croppers met at Mr William Milne's farm, East Taieri, yesterday to witness an exhibition trial of the Buckeye and Massey reapers and binders. The latter (as at West Eyreton and Ngapara) for some reason did not attend, but the Buckeye Elevator being on band got away at noon in a fine crop of oats averaging about 50 bushels and standing from Ift to 6ft iv height. The machine, drawn by two horses, made a couple of rounds, and then to show her ability to " open up " cut a lane through the centre of the block, returning the opposite way to pick up her tracks. This was done to the satisfaction of everybody present. Each sheaf was tightly bound, well packed, and delivered with square, even butts. The stubble was even and low, and there was a complete absence of loose straws. At 2 o'clock a halt was made for luncheon, and shortly afterwards another start was effected—a good many farmers following the machine round the paddock and closely examining its work. As the first appearance of the Buckeye in this part of the Taieri a very favourable impression was created, and a testimonial drawn up on the ground promptly bore the signatnrc of every farmer present —Mr William Milne and Mr Smcllie, of North Taieri, who drove during the day, each purchasing a machine through Mr J. Fowler,

the local agent. Farmers requiring machines this season need to make prompt application as stocks are running low. Mr Milne's machine will be at work again to-day, and anyone wishing to inspect it is at liberty to do so.

AUSTRALIA V. THE WORLD. «. Tho Australasian colonies are rapidly coming to the front, and before tho next centenary will undoubtedly form one of the greatest nations in the world. Young Australians have made a world-wide reputation for themselves as statesmen, scholars, soldiers, and athletes. Australian products of all kinds are proved to bo equal and in many cases superior to the products of the older countries. Among all the industries now being developed no oqo is making such rapid and marked strides as that of wine growing. At the last Melbourne International Exhibition Caldwell's " Crown Braud " wines beat 415 competing European wines. At all the exhibitions where exhibited Caldwell's " Crown Brand" wines have carried oflt the highest awards. In eight public trials with the best imported clarets Caldwell's "Crown Brand" received 64 votes in its favour against 37 received by the imported article. Caldwell's "Crown Brand" claret is now being largely imported into India, where it is fast displacing the French brands. Give your wine merchant a trial order and judge for yourself. Caldwell's Australian Wine Company, Limited, Melbourne. —[Advt.]
