THE BUTCHERS' LIBEL CASE.

In the libel action Rosewarne against other butchers, for inserting in the papers advertisements in regard to damaged frozen mutton bought by him for sale after the fire at the Belfast Works, a verdict was returned for £5 damages against all the defendants collectively except Jackson Brothers. The plaintiff Rosewarne swore he purchased 3272 frozen sheep sound from tho Belfast fire at Is Gd per carcase; boiled down 1600, sold 673 at a profit of 6s 3d each, and would have sold 1000 more had not the advertisements inserted by other butchers stopped the salo. He had supplied joints of the frozen meat to his regular customers at the prices charged for ordinary meat. He estimated the loss through the falling oif iv sales at £118, but took no account of having sold portion of the meat at ordinary prices. He had inserted advertisements in reply to those of butchers insinuating that soum 1 of them dealt, iv the "liagmag" of Addington saleyards. The jury retired over half an hour before they brought in a verdict of £5 damages.
