A PATENT CASE.
(Per United Press Association.)
Wellington, January 17.
An action has been begun before the Supreme Court, in which the proprietor of the line of 'buses running in opposition to the tram company has sued the latter for £7500 damages for infringement of a patent for cars suitable to run either on or off rails. The plaintiff gave evidence that the manager of the Tramway Company, after asking what he would charge for a royalty to use his patent on their cars, told him that he wag going to have a number built, whether he (plaintiff) liked it or not, and as the compauy had shown themselves strong enough to get an act passed in their own interest last session, he had no doubt that they world have influence enough to prevent him doing anything in this matter.
An amended statement of claim was put in reducing the claim to £1000, and after hearing the evidence of plaintiff the case was adjourned until Wednesday next.
