CAVERSHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.
An ordinary meeting of the Caversham Council, held lasfc night, was attended by Crs Nutting tin the chair), Methven, Coverlid, R. Wilson, Cole, Frye Bridgman, M'Beath, Baverstock, and Kirby. '
THS MAYOR'S ABSENCE. The Town Clerk stated that he had recefred a letter f.om the Bluff from the mayor, who stated that he would be away for a month, and asked him (the clerk) to apologise to the council for goingawav without obtaining leave from the council.—lhe apology was acceptedREPORTS. The Finance Committee reported tbat £125 13s lOd had been paid into the bank since last meetine and recommended that £60 7s Sd for general accounts ™ f? r w,^f r •^PP-y* aud £il 12s 6d on account cf bt. Clair relief works be Dassedfor payment —Th« report was adopted. " c The Works and Baths Committee reported that they had instructed the inspector to discontinue blasting stone for the St Clair wall at the proposed extension of tke St. Clair Baths until hewSS further instructions from the council.—Tho renort was adopted. 1""' The Drainage and Water Committee recommended [ the council to call for tenders for the supply of water p-pes required for a period of 12 months/and to go into committee to consider the question of the disyoial of nightsoii.-Adopted.
_, CORRESPONDENCE. The Town Clerk of South Dun. din wrote askine the counci to place the mud tank on the Forbury road in a direct line with Cross street in that borough on the north Mi-, and stated that if the uiveretom Council took the water across the road at that point the fcouth Dn-.edin Council would continue the piping to Cargill road.-Referred to the Drainage Committee to report.

Harris wrote asking the council's permission to. put a crossing over the pathway at St. Olair in-front of his section.—The request was granted, the.work to be done under the supervision of the inspector. THE ST. CLAIR WALL. Cr Cole said that he and Cr.WiUon had an interview with Mr Ussher witli regard to the supply of cement for the St. Olair wall, and Mr Ussher stated that he believed the Government would agree to pay the cost thereof; alao that they would approve of the wages of Mr Swan, fche blacksmith, being increased to 5s per day.—The question of tho cement was referred to the Works Committee, and it was agreed to increase Mr Swan's wages. * APPOINTMENT OF A CHAIRMAN. ■' Cr Nutting was appointed chairman of tho council during the absence of fche mayor. CLAIR RESERVE. .-„._r Bridgman asked if the council intended to take any steps to conssrve the iuterest; of the borough in the reserve at St. Olair; and ~ After seme discussion with regard to the matter, a committee* consisting of the chairman and Crs yoverhd, Bridgman, and Wilson was appointed to taKe any necessary steps with the object above indicated.
