The Minister of Finance estimates a deficit for the year at £700,000. France having rejected the Italian commercial proposals, parleying has been terminated. It is stated that the French squadron_ in the Mediterranean fired twice at the Italian steamer Solferino when between Genoa and Nice. The French naval authorities state that the firing was accidental. March 29. (Received March 30,>t 10.30 a.m.) Inquires made into the circumstances connected with the French squadron firing upon the Italian steamer Solferino prove that the affair was quite accidental, and the incident has been arranged satisfactorily. LEG BEFORE WICKET. The Marylebone Cricket Club have declined to endorse the rule laid down by the County Clubs' Conference in reference to the question of low. The Standard, referring to the question about lbw, hopes that the Marylebone Cricket Club will reconsider the recent decision of the majority of the county clubs. GENERAL GOURKO.
