Littelton", January 8. The Mataqra, Captain Martin, 9J days from l(0ndon, arrived to-day. On November 20, when olose to tho Island of Tristan d'Acunha, a heavy gale struck the vessel and blew all the sails to pieces. The nrdnsail was blown out of the rings, while the jibs and foretopmast stays were all blown to ribbons. The vessel hove-to off the island, and a boat came off. The islanders complained of the irregularity of calls made by passing ships. They stated that they had not seen a ship for over three months, ancl had beeu without bread or flour for over eight weeks
