TWO LIVES LOST.

Invercaegill, January 8. Tho floods havo done a considerable amour **. of damage throughout this district, and unfortunately they have been accompanied by loss of human life. Frank Cassidy, a settler afc Wrcy'c Rush, was drowned on Thursday night ia a-cr*seh* near Aparima... It is supposed thai: he had walked his horse into tho creek instead of over the oulverfc. He leaves a widow and four children. The police are informed thftt a man named Matheson has been drowned in the Waikaia district. The suspension bridge erected over tho Aparima by the county pouuci! about a year ago, and which was a great public con* venience, has beeu swept away altogether with 30ft of embankment. The Nightcaps line, which cost a large sum to repair after the flood two years ago, is again badly damaged. Settlers of many years' residence say the flood in the Aparima is tbe most extensive they have known. At Dipton the township was submerged and gardens destroyed. The resideuts removed their furniture. Large quantities of grass for seed was carried away. The weather has vow cleared* "P. „,,.?■"
