At the show rooim of Messrs Barnard, Uishop, and Uarnanl, 91,113, and M Queen Victoria street, K.C. (says the European Mail), a now invention of Mes3rs Street and lilliß, of St. Clforge's street, Hull, described as *' collapsible berths," was exhibited on May 16. Great simplicity is a characteristic of the invention. Tho berths are made of wrought iron, and composed of interchangeable and collapsible pieces, susceptible of ready adjustment. When in use thoy occupj' the minimum of space—the sle-iper's accommodation beliis according to " Government regulation," and when not in use their several parts can be contracted or " collapsed," and thus reduced turned to serve all useful purposes on board ship. Messrs Street and Ellis claim, among the advantages of their patent, strength, immunity from corrosion (for the rivets are of copper), health (for thouou will not lodge vermin or the germs of infection), and a saving of space. Though primarily intended for immigrant and troop ships, the " collapsible berths " are suitable for all classes of vessels, as well as for hospitals on Bhore and afloat, and barracks.
