MAKING A FALSE DECLARA TION.

Auckland, July 16. A peculiar case came before the Police Court to-day, when James Edward Quinn and James Mannix were charged with making a false declaration of marriage to J. M. Wayland, deputy registrar of marriages, to gat from him a certificate for tho marriage of Quinn to Julia Sandford, she being under the age of 21 jears. Mr Williamson, who appeared for the prosecution, stated that the prisoners bad gone to the registrar's office in company with Miss Sandford, Mannix personating the father of the girl, and gave her away in marriage to Quinn, the pair being married by the registrar. All went well until the father of.the girl, who had refused his consent to the union, heard of the state of affairs, the prosecution being the result. Tho prisoners were remanded.
