MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

Be Blaikie Ikd Maicom,

A meeting,of creditors in the estate of Blaikie and Malcolm, contractors, was held in the official assignee's office yesterday morning.

The Assignee said the estate had been brought into bankruptcy by adjudication on a creditor's petition ? e « « received no etatement from the bankrupts, Mr.Malcolmeb-ing. absent in Blenheim. It was, he thought, only reasonale to grant the bankrupts a little more time, than the act allowed for putting in a statement of their assets and liabilities, ana he -would favour a motion being granted by thp court to extend, .the', time. They wefe all tolerably familiar with the complications of this estate, ahe principal assets;:consisted of. certain plant at the haikouras, valued at £586, and a balance due by the Government.of £600. He had telegraphed to the Secretary for Public Works as to what steps were necessary to recover thlß money, but as yet had received no reply; He had also telegraphed. to Malcolm to hold the plant to his order, and had since given orders for the protection of the movable part of ; it, such as ropes, &c. He had also seen the manager of the Colonial Bank regarding, a bill of sale, and he held a legal opinion to the effect that the bill was bad. With regaidto the assignment he had also an opinion, but that was not so iavourable. However, there were still some points to be cleared up, which could only be done on certain evidence being got. The first thing to be done would be the realisation of this plant. Mr Blaikie had suggested that it be brought down to Dunedin for sale at a cost of about £50. It would, however be better to advertise it for salcin the Dunedin, Christchurch, and Wellington papers. i«"«n, On the motion of Mr Hogg, seconded by Mr Sparrow, it was resolved to advertise accordingly The Assignee said that Mr Blaikie's furniture was valued at £65. On the motion of Mr Duncan, seconded by Mr Hoßg, it was resolved that Mr Blaikie be allowed his furniture.

The Assignee eaid Mr Malcolm's furniture was valued at £17. so they did not require to pass a resolution regarding it. Mr Blaikie made a statement which showed that the firm s difficulties were due to the non-fulfllmeut of a timber contract by a man in New South Wales It was resolved unanimously—" That the assigned close the bankruptcy of Blaikie, and recommend that hebe given his discharge; the same with Malcolm when he has given necessary [evidence and his services can be dispensed with.'The meeting was then adjourned till the 15th inst.

Rk Richard Dale. A meeting of creditors in the estate of Bichard .Dale, notelkeeper, of Mu6Belburgh, which was to have been held at the official assignee's office yesterday afternoon, lapsed for want of a quorum. The bankrupt's statement showed his liabilities to be £198015s 6d, and his assets £1522 Is, leaving a deficiency of £458 14s 6d. The following are the principal unsecured creditors-.—Speight and Co £12 9s; Maurice Joel. £10 12s; Dunedin Hospital contributions, £8 5s 6d; M'Gaviu, M'Gregor, and Co £5 13s ; William Strachan, £4 3s Id; borough of St! Hilda, £4 7s 6d; Marshall and Co., £4 2s2d • J Wilson and Co., £S 15s 6d; Fernhill Coal Company, £4 15s.

The following are the secured creditors:—George Esther, £1550 (estimated value of security, £1300) • Thomas Low's estate, £355 11s 2d (estimated value of •ecurity, £200) ; total, £1905 lla 2d.

The Bankrupt stated that when he originally bought his property he paid £1735 for it. He attributed his present position to the fact that there had been a Jalling-off in business for some time past He would not ask auy of his friends to buy the business, as it would be very much like robbing them.
