r In the Legislative Assembly last night the debate was commenced on Mr Copeland's motion of want of confidence in the-Govern-ment on account of their financial proposals. The Hon. J. F. Burns (Treasurer) said that the Government would stand or fall by the proposed readjustment of .the taxation,and by a sound system of retrenchment they hoped to be able to reduce the public expenmcuref- the prospect ~of a' property £ax being proposed was vanishing day by day, but if the necessity for it arose the Government would be found to possess the courage of their opinions.
EIGHT HOURS DEMONSTRATION. Melboubne, April 21
(Received April 22, at a am.) The Eight Hours Demonstration took place to-day and was largely attended, the whole proceedings being a great success.
