EXAMINATION PAPERS.
TO THE EDITOB.
Sin,—Seeing a.number of articles in your valuable paper, I am induced to write a short note re the late examination for junior scholarships. Had you seen the papers given to the candidates, 1 feel certain that you would have _ ' lifted up your voice against the most unfair examination that these children are subjected to, •* '"" one of the greatest being that for arithmetic. lam told that a schoolmaster in a populous district in Otago said that he did not believe more than one man in that large district could do the1 paper in the time allotted—viz., two hours. For* my own part, I question if there are many men iv Otago who could do the paper at all, give them as much time as you like. Again, another paper—geography. One of the questions asked was: State what you know about Kimberley. I will leave you to judge as to the fairness of such a question, especially when children are supposed not to be asked any question but those taught in the fifth standard. Again, for my own part—not that I wish to throw any di 6» credit upon the inspectors—l hardly think ii right that those gentlemen who inspect theschools for the whole of this district should act as examiners.—l am, &c., January 22. Interested.
