NORTH-EAST VALLEY
BOROUGH COUNCIL. « The ordinary meeting of this borough council, held on Tuesday evening, was attended by the Mayor (Mr J. A. White), Crs Johnston, Russell, Anderson, Green, Short, Duncan, Rishworth, Macandrew, and Black. Tae Finance Committee recommended that accounts to the sum of £42 19s should be passed for payment, and strongly recommended that no work be undertaken during the remainder of the current financial year except what can be accomplished by the present staff. Since the last meeting the following sums had been paid into the bank: General account £37 3s, Government subsidy £281 ss, special account £07 17s sd; total £416 5s sd.—The report was adopted! The Works Committee reported as to sanitary matters. They had given instructions that the parties complained against receive notice to have their premises cleaned put within 48 hours, and that failing compliance with the order legal proceedings be taken. As to the letter from Mr V. Pyke offering to perform the work in continuing Calder street, Sunnydale, the cou> mittee had instructed the inspecror to take the levels and estimate the probable cost of the work required to be done, including a box-drain j 18in x 18in, and report to the council. The inspector having reported on the work, the council resolved not to entertain Mr Pyke's offer. —The report was adopted. It was resolved that Mr Murphy's ground at Pine Hill thould be the nightgoil depot. CORRESPONDENCE. A circular from the Colonial Treasurer re outstanding debentures under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act was received, and referred to I he Finance Committee to report. A letter was received from the manager of the Colonial Bank drawing attention to the council's overdraft and requesting that the amtiunt be reduced forthwith.
