COMMERCIAL.

Daily Times Oflice, Friday evening.

The amount of customs revenue received today on goods cleared for consumption was £1011103.

CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. Report for the week ending Friday, 21st inst.:—

Very favourable reports of the crops continue fco come from the country districts. The hot weather has brought them along quickly, but with the exception of those on poor land, the grain promises to be plump, full, and of excellent quality. Wheat in the early district has been commenced, but this harvest will not be general for another 10 days or a fortnight. New oats have been offered pretty plentifully, which shows the harvest to be well advanced. Ryegrass has turned out a fair yield, but prices have not been sufficiently favourable to growers to lead to auy business of importance. Fine weather is required for another month to complete the harvest work.

Wheat.—Second quality and chicken wheat has greatly receded during the past week, 3s lOd to 4s being the best value for the former, while the latter varies from 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; prime milling, however, is in such a smaill compass that when wanted 4s 4d and 4s 5d have to be given. Oats. —No marked change is noticeable in values, prices being well maintained for the by outside orders, and a considerable line has been put on board the Bellona for London. Prime milling are scarce, aud worth 2s; short stout feed have had business done nt ls 9d to ls IOd; long oats are quiet at ls 7d. Barley has little or no busin3ss passing, and values are unaltered.

Ryegrass has opened rather low; there being so few or-lers on hand make buyers careful. Sales have been effected afc 2s 3d, 2s 6d, 2s 9d, and as high as 3s for good farmers' parcels. The majority of growers, however, have preferred holding for improved prices.

Dairy Produce.—Butter is as low as it well can be, but still there is but little speculation. Values remain at 4jd fco 6d. Cheese also is low, with bufc little business, 4d to 5d feeing best prices. The above quotations are for delivery 1 .0.b,.Lyt-tet ton, sacks extra.

THE LONDON WOOL MARKET.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., reporting on the fifth series ef London wool sales, under date London, December 3, state:—

The attendance of buyers has been very large, but the result so|far has been very dissappointing, a/f!& with the exception of new clip wools, which havsmet with fair competition, biddings have been very fitful and irregular, and we quote fully Id to ljd decline on scoured, and jd to ld on greasies from closing rates at last series. New clip wools have sold relatively better.and at times the best lots of Riverina wools show but little decline. The heaviest fall has been oa medium and faulty scoured, which afc one time last sales made excessively high rates, and for tin se the decline is not unfrequenfcly at least 3d from the top prices of September. Crossbreds have suffered less, and although rather below the closing rates in October, when they were at their best, are but fractionary below average values of the last series. Withdrawals have been ver^ heavy, comprising about one-fifth of fche total offerings to date. Consumption of wool continues ou a very large sca:e snd trade appears generally sound, so that we see no reason to anticipate any further serious decline, and ahould^peace be preserved, may, we think, reasonably anticipate a steady market throughout the year.
