THE CITY MAYORALTY.
MR CARROLL IN BELL WARD. Mr John Uarroll, who is seeking election to th 6 civic chair, addressed about 80 ratepayers at Fagan's Sussex Hall last evening. Mr W. M. Bolt was voted to the chair. The Chairman, in opening the meeting, expressed satisfaction at being allowed to preside that evening. Mr Carroll bad for many years represented Bell Ward in the council, and during that timo he bad always voted for him, and never had cause to regret it. He considered he (Mr Carroll) possessed equal ability for the position to his opponent, notwithstanding he was put forward by a small and select coterie of ratepayers. For this reason, coupled with his longcontinued service as councillor, he considered he was entitled to the1 position which he was seeking. Mr Carroll briefly recapitulated the remarks before reported on the gas, water, finance, tramways, corporation leases, and other matters. He also referred to remarks made in connection with the recent applications to be placed on the roll, and said all who were entitled should be placed on the rull if the applications were made in due form. Mr Carroll answered a number of questions satisfactorily. I Mr H. Pauli proposed and Mr W. Gow| eeebnded—" ThatiMr Carroll is the most fit and proper person to occupy the mayoral chair for the coming year," which was carried, unanimously. . Mr Carroll acknowledged the vote, and a vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting. ■
