COLONISTS AT EDINBURGH.

A party of colonial and Indian visitors are now at Edinburgh, where they have been entertained at a public banquet. While making a tour of the city the visitors were frequently cheered by the people in the streets.

MORE VICTORIAN EXCLUSIVENESS. Melbourne, August 26.

A deputation to-day waited upon the Commissioner of Trade and Customs to urge the abolition of the regulation for the gristing of oats, similarly to that of wheat, in bond. The Commissioner argued that there was no parallel between wheat and oats, unless it was shown the importation of the latter from New Zealand affected the price of Victorian outs. He promised, however, to consider the representations made by the deputation. THE CABLE TARIFF. Sydney, August 26.

A deputation from the Sydney Chamber of Commerce will wait upon the Postmastergeneral to-morrow, urging that New South Wales in conjunction with New Zealand should renew the subsidy to the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company, with a view to securing a reduction in the tariff on the cable between Australia and New Zealand.
