Auckland, August 21,
At an open-air meeting of the unemployed this morning a speaker named Wright made a violent attack on Government for their "cold-blooded and white-livered " action with' regard to the existing distress. He said 150 men working at Woodville were up to their waists in a swamp. Mr Peacock, M.H.R., was present, but on account of the wet weather was not asked to address the meeting, which adjourned to the City Hall at 8 p.m. . Mr Dargaville then addressed the meeting, which was very lively and lasted till' nearly 11 o'clock. Ultimately a resolution was passed confirming the vote of censure passed by the unemployed upon him.

Johnston, who committed suicide at Gisborne, enclosed sealed letters three weeks ago to a friend here, with a request not to open them till his death. Deceased's life was insured in the Government office for £1000, and in the letter Johnston mistakenly assumes the insurance would not be paid in the event of suicide.
