BANKING RETURNS.

tcess of assets

overliabilities... £7,074,124 £7.393,273 £7,733,138 The above return is much more favourable

than that last published for tho December quarter. The deposits show an increase in six mouths of £450,47i1, and iv the previous quarter tbey showed an increase of -£320,984. On the other hand, the advances, which had progressively increased in nine months by no less than £1,130,000, have now decreased in six months by .£149,827 —not perhaps alargeamount, but showing a turn for the better. The note circulation is rather better, aud thero are no large advances on Government securities. The net result as shown by the differences between assets aud liabilities in the December and June quarters respectively is that the banks are stronger by £659,014 than they were, so that the recent advance iv interest forced ou us by the action of the Australian banks is not justified by our own returns. It will have the effect, no doubt, of further strengthening tho deposits, but only by withdrawing money from other classes of investments. The recent riso in wool, if maintained, should also have tho effect of relieving the advance accounts to some extent by the end ofthe year, by increasing the value of the exports to be drawn agaiust.

Scott's Emulsion- of Pubis Cod Liviiii On,, with HYPOMiosPiUTiiS, in incipient consumption seems to possess remedial powers of great efficacy. It heals the irritation of the throat and lungs, makes puro blood, and builds up and fortifies the system agaiust further inroads of disease,
