The captain of the schooner Croydon Lass, which, has put in at Wellington, reports that he left Havelock on Monday,; 10th inst., bound for Lyttelton; was off Gore's Bay, fifty miles from Lyttelton, on Thursday night at 8 o'clock. On Friday morning encountered a terrible squall, which put the vessel on her beam ends and flooded the decks. They cut the lashings of the deck load and threw the timber overboard, thereby relieving the vessel and enabling her to right' herself. Meanwhile the mainsail had split, and the other sailsrtjfaw away as fast as they could be set. They rigged a sea anchor, and by that means rode" out the gale with the loss of all fresh water on board and the destruction of a portion of the bulwarks, which had to be knocked away to clear the vessel. On Saturday at noon the wind lulled, and at 8 p.m.-it came up again from the S.E., gradually veering to S.S.W., and blew another heavy gale, which lasted until Monday rnorning. At 7 a.m. on Monday the vessel was about twenty-five miles E.&E-. of Cape Campbell, and close to a large three-masted steamer, likewise hove-to.' s Made sail anof stood in for land, the steamer likewise getting under weigh.
