Mr T. Grose has received a telegram from Lyell stating that the monthly cleaning-up of the United Alpine Company resulted in obtaining S9loz of retorted gold fromiflaS tons stone. A^dividend of ls per share has been declared.
The Cromwell Argus reports that the efforts of the workmen on behalf of the local Prospecting Association in seeking payable gold in the Gromweil Flat have not proved successful, and operations-in that quarter have ceased. The result may be taken to have set at rest speculations as to leads of auriferous drift existing in the deep ground between Cromwell and the Gorge. The Association will now turn its attention to quartz, and the Carrick RangeVs a d^ lded upon as the field of operations. A Thames telegram says:—" Cleaning-up took place at the La Monte furnace yesterday afternoon,whenll9ozof bullion was banked. This makes the- total value of the bullion obtained Sr et£"V Starting"of the smeltin S operations
A Bartleman, legal manager of the Tipperary Gold-mining Company, received a telegram yesterday morning stating the result of the last washing-up to be 3720z retorted gold trom 315 tons stone.
