THE PANTOMIME.

On Boxing night there was a performance at the Lyceum Hall, at which Miss Georgie Smithson, who is favourably known to theatro-goers, again appeared before a Duuedin audience, supported by Mr James Holloway and a select company. There was a fair attendance and the performance was generally appreciated. In the first part of the entertainment Miss Smithsou gave a series of character sketches, and sang with good effect a number of comic and sentimental songs. Mr James Holloway, as tho Negro Pompey, was very amusing, and contributed in this part and in the pantomime to the success of the performance. The second portion of the entertainment consisted of the popular pantomime, " Whittington and His Cat." Miss Smithson played the part of Whittington iv a spirited and pleasing manner, gaining repeated applause, and was ably seconded by Mr Holloway, who, as Whittington's rival, provoked much laughter. The other parts were fairly sustained by Miss Wood, Miss Black, and Messrs Aspinal and Stacuy. Tin; costumes were appropriate and some of the scenery remarkably good. As usual, there were " local hits," a fair number of which were directed' at the mayor, but these could not bo regarded as particularly successful. On the whole tho performance was received with approbation, and its repetition this evening should attract a fair share of public patronage.

—At Liskheard, Cornwall, a man has made for himself a hat, coat, trousers, capn, and shoes of ratskins. The number of rats required to make the suit was 670.
