DRUNKENNESS.—One person was punished for this offence.
Vagrancy.—John Edwards, alias Harris, was charged with having insufficient lawful means of support.—Sergeant-major Bevin stated that the accused was summoned to appear at Court on the 2Sth ult., but as he did not put in an appearance a warrant was issued for his arrest, and on Thursday he was arrested at Port Chalmers.—Evidence was given by the police showing that the accused was a very bad character, and was iv the habit of " dogging " the steps of drunken men.—He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment, with hard labour.
Obstructing Tire Police.—George Stone was charged with wilfully obstructing Constable Hansen in the execution of his duty at the Lyceum Hall oh Thursday evening.—Mr D. M. Stuart appeared for the accused.—After evidence, the Bench inflicted a fine of £2, in default 14 days' imprisonment. Larceny.—Thomas James l?oote was charged with stealing a pair of slippers, of the value of 5s Gd, the property of A. and T. Inglis.— Detective Bain asked for a remaud until Thursday, in" order, that the accused might be subjected to medical examination, as it was feared the accused was of unsound mind.—A remand was granted accordingly.——Elizabeth Tattersail was charged with stealing a pair of watertight boots, of the value of 10s Gd, the property of Neil M'Fadden, of George street.—The accused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Win. Wray (a lad) was charged with stealing three-quarters "of a pound of biscuits, the property of Alex. Michie.—The accused was remanded until Thursday.
