OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the committee of the A. and P. Association was hold at their office last evening. Present—Messrs Brydone (in the chair), Smith; Taggart, Sutherland, Kerr,. Gourley, Philp, Stronach, Sinclair; Peake, Roberts, Charters, Macfarlane, and Patrick.
, A letter was read from the South Duuediu Horticultural Society asking if terms could be arranged whereby their show could be held at Tahuna Park.—lt was resolved to allow the society to hold their show on the second day of the A. and P. Society's show, the terms being that they get the ground for nothing. From Lieutenant-colonel Stavely, on behalf of the Volunteers, asking on what terms they would be allowed to use the park, and place mounds upon the bank for shooting, as per details and sketch forwarded.—lt was resolved to grant the request at a rental of £50 per annum, the Ground Committee to arrange details, an amendment by Mr Stronach that the rent be £25 being rejected.
A letter was read from Mr Julius Yon Haast, C.M.G., asking the co-operation of tho association in the matter of the exhibits for the forthcoming Colonial and Indian Exhibition.— Particulars and forms of entries for this can be procured at the secretary's office by persons interested.
The Chairman stated that no doubt it was well known to the committee that he, in conjunction with Mr Smith, the hou. treasurer, had been making efforts to obtain the freehold of the 2>ark. He read a telegram reply from the Hon. W. J. M. Larnach, C.M.G., member for the district, stating that the Government had agreed to vest the land in trustees with permission to the association to borrow, if required, to the extont of 42 years income. It was resolved that a letter be sent to the Hon. W. J. M. Larnach and other members of the district who have interested themselves on behalf of the association, thanking them for the action taken in the matter.
The horse parade, it was resolved, should take place on Thursday, Bth October, and the committee of last year who had managed the same, were re-elected;
It was resolved that the annual show be held on Wednesday and Thursday, 2oth and 26th November.
On the motion of Mr Kerb (Reid and Grey), seconded by Mr Peake (T. Robinson and Co.), it was resolved—" that no prizes or awards whatever be granted iv the class for implements." On the motion of Mr Gouijlby, seconded by Mr Sinclair, it was resolved—" That the foregoing resolution apply also to wheeled vehicles." The Programme Committee were reappoin ted as follows:—Messrs Brydone, Stronach, Patrick, Roberts, Smith, Peake, Philp, Macfarlane, and Fergussou.
It was resolved to institute a fox terrier coursing mooting on the last Saturday in August, and that the same be advertised forthwith, and that Messrs Philp, Taggart, Gourloy, Dowse, Smith, and Sinclair be appointed" a subcommittee to issue the programme and arrange details.
