PORT CHALMERS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The regular fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Monday evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Crs Watson, limes, Murray, Cable, De Maus, Gardiner, Read, and Ferry. minutes. The minutes of the previous meeting were read anel confirmed. CORIIESI'ONDEXCE. From Mr M. Menelaus, under date of the 13th inst., informing the Council that his wife was suffering from an attack of typhoid fever.—Received. From Messrs Adams Brothers, solicitors for Mr R. H-iuc-hop, calling the attention of tlie Council to tlie loss sustained by their client through the action of the Council in cutting down Grey street, and stating that Mr Bauchop was unwilling to go to law ; and rather than adopt that course would accept £100 in satisfaction. This offer was made Without prejudice to Mr Bauchop's right to sue for the full amount he may consider himself entitled ;to if the council do not settle without legal proceedings.—Received, and referred to the Works Committee to inspect the house and report upon tlie alleged damage. Dr Drysdale, medical officer of health, in reply to a communication from the Council as to whether sufficient precautions had been taken bypersons in whose families certain cases of scarlet and typhoid fever have recently occurred. In reference to the cases of scarlet fever, as they had occurred in his own practice, he could say positively that every precaution had been observed, and as for the cases of typhoid, he had been assured by Dr De Lautour, who was the medical attendant, that the usual and most approved means had been adopted to prevent tlie spread of the disease.—Received, and the thanks of tlie council extended to Dr Drysdale for the report. Thompson had been elected lieutenant of the brigade, and requesting the council to appoint Mr Thompson as a lire inspector tor the. borough.-Received, and it was resolved to appoint Mr Thompson as inspector.
