OUR VOLUNTEERS.

battalion parade.

A .battalion parade of the Dunedin Garrison Corps was held on the reclaimed ground last evening. The night was clear, and the movements of the Volunteers were watched by a large number of spectators. Major Gordon, the district adjutant, put the companies present through the different movements, and on the whole the evolutions -were satisfactorily performed. Eight companies were represented, five being rifles and the other three artillery corps. After parade the men were marched back to tho Garrison Hall, where they were put through some company drill, and afterwards dismissed. The following is the parade slate :—

B Battery N.Z. Artillery.—l captain, 1 lieutenant, 1 sergeant-major, and 45 gunners Dunedin Naval Artillery.-] captain, 2 lieutenants. 1 elnet petty-officer, .') first-class petty-officers, 1 bugler, i>o milliters. Peninsula Naval Artillery.—l captain, 2 lieutenants, 1 chief officer, 2 petty-officers, aud 50 gunners.

Highland Itifles.—l captain, 1 lieutenant, 5 sergeants, 1 bugler, 42 rank and file. South Dunedin Kiiles.—l captain. 2 lieutenants, slants, 1 bugler, 32 rank and file. " uakan Hides.—l captain. 2 sergeants, ol rank and inc.Noith Dunedin Mines—l captain. 2 lieutenants, •i sergeants, w rank and iile. | City Guards.—2 lieutenants, 1 sergeants, 1 busier. 44 rank and lile. Staff.—Lieutenant -colonel Staveiv, Majors Jack and Beeves, and Adjutant Leary. " I. BATTERY. The sixth annual meetinir of the L Battery was held in the drillshed, Port Chalmers, on Monday evening last. Captain Taylor was cnairman, aud there was a fair attendaucc of members. The balance-sheets aud reports of various committees were; read and adopted. The aftairs of the battery are in a satisfactory condition, there being a balance to credit of £96 17s. The secretary and treasurer (Corporals Weir and Lee) were unanimously re-elected for the current year, and the following committees appointed:—General Committee: Commissioned officers Sergeant Mitchell, Gunners Leach, Hall, Shelmerdine. D. Baird, and A. Young! Match Committee: Sergeants Mitchell and Hempseed, Gunners Shelmerdine and Poster. Ordnance Committee: Sergeants Thomson, Asher, and Hampseed, Gunners Jacobseu and ■\\ ratson. Auditors: Gunners J. Driver and T. \oung. Trumpeter Taylor was appointed corporal. Some conversation ensued as to the desirability of celebrating the sixth anniversary of the battery, and it was resolved that the General Committee consider the matter and report at next general parade. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the business of the evening.
