FROZEN-MEAT TRADE. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,—Kindly permit us to add to the statistics of Otago shipments already forwarded to you the figures of a parcel of 360 sheep shipped by us per Tongariro, and sold by our London offlce for account of Messrs Thomson Bros,, Port Chalmers. - It should be noted that these Bheep averaged 701b —lighter weights than those quoted by Mr Cuningham Smith in his letter:— Total. GroES prooeeds —6'3ld per 11-3=63 lld per liead; skin and fat, 7s .... ... 43a lld Chaig-a. .2-35 p.-r lb + '60d par lb allowed for freezing .. 19s 7d Set jroceeds 2'96d ptr lb=l7s 4d per head; skin and fai, 7s .. .. 24s 4d We instance this particular parcel because it was shipped Home entirely apart from the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, and cannot therefore be regardod by "Waitaki" or other discontents as a portion of their Buccess in the trade. We may, however, mention that other shipments of ours —notably per Coptic, frozen at tho New Zealand Refrigerating Company's workß at Burnside, and sold by ua in London—have realised even higher prices than the above. —We are, &c, The British and New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Co (Ltd.).
