A GROWL. TO THE EDITOR.
Sin,—ln your report of the Benevolent Institution Counnitteo I observe you state that it was decided to pay the passages of a missionary and his wife to_ Christchurch, Thia is unsatisfactory by ita moagieness, and prompts tho queation, Why i 3 this thus ? Is thero nn longer need of missionary labour hero? Why is he sont to Cbiistchurch? That is either too far or not far enough. Why not at once to his proper field among the coc'ianuts aud bananas ? But why—why should he bo transpoited at the expenßO of the Benevolent Asylum ? Is he pauper as well as missionary ? Tbo practice nnd precepts of the early Church in this respect ara well known to havo been long aitico abandoned. And, lastly, ia tho transportation of him and hia belongings undertaken by the Committee because he ia a pauper, or because he is a missionary ? If tho former, Chriatchurch will hardly be grateful; if the latter, the public have a right to kuow whether he in orthodox ; whether the spiritual wants of Christchurch are greater than our own ; and, finally, why the Committee did not go the whole hog, and send him right to his cocoanuts. —I am, &c, Growler.
