Mr J. T. Thomson, late surveyor-general, died this morning. The deceased gentleman some mouths ago had a paralytio stroko, from the effects of which he never completely recovered. He was till lately a member of the Town Council, aud took a great interest in all matters affecting the borouxh, especially the improvement of the New River. He founded the Southland Institute, to which he was a, frequent contributor of papers on scientific and other subjects. He was 62 yearß of age.
