CARISBROOK LAWN TENNIS CLUB.

The annual general meeting, of the above Club was held at Wain's Hotel on Monday evening, about 20 members being present.

The Seoretaby (Mr G. W. Greenwood) read the following report:—

In presenting to you'tho seccnd annual roprrt of the above Club, your Committee regret that owing to the unprecodentedly wet season the membership rol was net so large us during the previous josr, and consequently there has been a slight lalling-off in the Club's finann s. At a general meeting held on October 31, 1833, it was resolved to secure a piece of land opposite the present ground for (he purpose of forming thres or four additional grass courts- These, which will shortly be reatlyfor usa, and which were estimated to co3t £200, have been formed at an expenee to the Club of £196 16a 6d. Of this amount £US was raised by debentures, £4S was paid cut cf tho Club funds, and £30 16) 6d is Etill owing. The deficiency between tha amount of debentures issued and the cost of the courts (£80) is tho Bum for whk'h the Club is etill liable, the outstanding ac:ou«ta amounting to £81 4s 6i. Against this amount we bavo the va'ue of the courts, estimitod a*. .€2OO, atd tho goodwill of tho lease, worth at luaet £50. With a view to reducing the debit balarce, your Committee have decided to hold a ball on tho 17th mat. to assist in defraying the expenses incurred in forming ib.3 new courts. Matches were played dur.ng the season against tho Oaraaru, Milton, and Canterbury Clubs Of these one was won (v. Milton) and two !o3t (v. Oamaru and Canterbury). The latter, owing to the rain, wis played in the Fernhili Club's asphalt court. Matches had also been arranged with Palmer--Bton and Waikouaiti, but in consequenca of the wet weUhor prevalent at the latter end rf the season thete woie obliged to be postponed until this year. A ladies' tournament waa alao played, for which 16 entries were received, and was won by Misa F. Maitland. It ia to bo regretted that the Club will during: the coming season be deprived of tho fervicea of Mr Hugh SlacVeil, who has upon all former occasions represented the Club in every important contest.

The following officebearers were then elected for the onsuing season: — President, Dr Batchelor; vice-president, General Fulton; committee, Drs Brown and Davis, Messrs Rose, Wobster, Fulton, Cargill, and Dowling ; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr G. W, Greenwood.

Sevonteen new members were elected, and it was decided to open the courts for play on Saturday next.
